On today’s Tech, No Babel: Shooting video with the subject in front of a windowIf you try shooting with the subject in front of a window, you’re likely to realize that video cameras have a smaller dynamic range than the human eye. As such, either the window will be too bright or the subject will be too dark.
In order to fix this, you have some options:
Change position.
Use ND gel & CTO in order to balance the light intensity and color coming from the window.
Use extra light & CTB gel on the lights to balance the color and intensity with more light inside.
Expose for the subject and ignore the windows.
Expose for the windows and enjoy a silhouette look (if it makes sense artistically).
Place the subject so that the window doesn’t touch him/her. Shoot the scene. Keep the camera still on a tripod. Move the subject and expose for the window. Replace blown out window in post with after effects etc.
