Bare Minimum Podcast Rig | Tech Help for Churches

Listen to the audio:

On today’s Tech Help for Churches, the bare minimum podcast rig

In order to do an audio podcast you need something to receive the sound (a microphone) and something to record it. With the gear I have, I’d start with my Behringer Ultravoice XM8500 microphone, a short XLR cable, and my Zoom H4 recorder (no longer manufactured; take a look at the H4N instead).

If I didn’t have the Zoom, I’d use my iPhone (Android phones work, too). The problem is that you can’t really plug a mic with an XLR connection (professional mic cable) into a smart phone…unless you use either an XLR to iPhone adapter cable or an iRig Pre.

If you’d like to do video, either use a webcam like the Logitech C615 that I use or even (again) your smart phone.

Either needs a small tripod, but the smartphone also needs an adapter to hold it so that it can connect to the tripod.

That’s kind of the bare minimum I’d recommend, assuming you had a computer to edit with, but that’s a different matter altogether.
