On today’s Tech Help for Churches, 3 Twitter Mistakes
[tweet “Are you broadcasting? Are you adding value? You might be making other mistakes, too.”]Not interacting
Just creating an account isn’t enough. You need to interact. The more you do, the better your results.
Broadcasting
Social media isn’t just a broadcast medium with an occasional opportunity to respond to a letter to the editor. It’s a constant conversation. The democratization of media is something that we aren’t likely to recover from. People are equals. Technology no longer stands in the way of that equality.
Not adding value
How can you meet a need? How can you surprise and delight people? There’s a good chance that they’ll tell you how. You just need to listen.
What if your church responded to needs, not pointing to how great you were for doing so, but just helped? What if problems in your community were solved, quietly and lovingly? I bet the word would get out. I bet eventually someone would notice that it was the church that did it, by asking or putting 2 and 2 together.
Now, imagine the next time that someone was complaining about “those Christians” to someone helped by (or a witness to help by) your church. Do you think arguments about the Crusades would hold any sway if the person listening was just given a blanket when they were cold or their child got a blood transfusion from a church member?
We can solve these social problems. Let’s become known for humbly doing so.
