Linking to a place in a YouTube video other than the beginning | Tech Help for Churches

On today’s Tech Help for Churches, Starting a YouTube video in a place other than the beginning

Sometimes, you want to start a video at a place other than the beginning. Maybe you’re sharing your son’s baptism, your daughter playing guitar, or a particular point in the message. Either way, it’s not that hard to do.

[tweet “Sometimes, you want to start a YouTube video at a place other than the beginning. Here’s how:”]

In the description on YouTube, just put the time in this format h:mm:ss. So, 1:12:34 would take you to one hour, twelve minutes and thirty-four seconds into the video. If it’s 12 minutes in, just drop the first number and colon. For so many seconds in (and no minutes), start with an initial “0” and then the colon.

To share a link to the video itself, either stop the video at the point you want to start it at and check “start at” (tweaking the numbers in the box to the right as needed) or you can do it manually. To do this, end the youtube link with “?=” and then “1h12m34s” (for example). Each of those is optional, so you could do just “2m4s” or “1h7s” if you wanted to.

What’s great about this is that it doesn’t provide an end time, so when you share the video, the people who watch it might not stop and might see something else which helps them.
