On today’s Tech Help for Churches, How to tell if your website can podcast

In order to podcast, you need an RSS feed. In some cases, you may need multiple feeds. Some websites can generate them for you, but most can’t.

Let’s start with what technology you have on the back end of your website. Is it WordPress? If so, you have a ton of options. You can add the Podpress plug in from Blubrry and use that to generate the feed (or feeds) that you need.

If not, your podcast host may be able to generate it for you. Libsyn, for example, can do just that.

Whatever you do, avoid these two traps. First, don’t host your media on your web server. That’s begging for trouble and betting against your own success. Secondly, make sure your media host lets you move your RSS feed any time you need to.

If you’re not hosting your RSS feed yourself, you can use a whole lot of web platforms, just make sure you can get your content out if and when you need to leave.
