Once you decide that you need one next, you’ll need to go about choosing a stage television. Here’s what you should look for:

It can be both too big and too small. For most applications, I’d aim for 42-60″.
-Glossy vs. matte
Glossy will give you better looking black levels. It also reflects light, sometimes causing problems. Pro tip: Use a mirror placed where the TV will go and see if your cameras (or congregation) are blinded by lights in that location, if so, figure out a solution.
Matte stage televisions won’t look as good, but will have fewer issues with reflected light.
- Smart tv vs. not
You don’t really need smart tv functions, and they could cause problems, so feel free to pass, if you have the choice. - VGA and HDMI connections
In 2017, VGA isn’t necessary anymore. As much as I hate HDMI for production applications, it’s what most devices you’ll be integrating will use. So, make sure you have that, but if it also has VGA, that’s not a bad thing. That way, you’ll be prepared if a guest speaker brings an older laptop, etc. - Brand
I won’t recommend specific brands, but steer clear of “really good deals” on no name brands. Often the “good deal” will mean that you’ll be upgrading sooner than you’d like. - Mounting points
This is pretty standard, but make sure you have VESA mount points on your stage television. Also, make sure the stand can be easily removed. - Additional features (professional color correction, wired remote/ip or serial control)
Unless you go with a professional monitor, you probably won’t have these, but it’s better to have them and not need them, than need them and not have them, all other things being equal.
