Chick-fil-a and service

I like Chick-fil-a. I’m not talking politically or socially. I’m talking about a restaurant, that’s all. Their chicken is pretty good, but so is KFC, Raisin’ Canes, and others. Why am I not talking about them? Service.

Service is what sets Chick-fil-a apart. When you get a refill and thank the person who got it, they say “my pleasure,” not “no prob” or “huh?” or anything else. When they say it, I think they mean it.

When you arrive at a Chick-fil-a, someone greets you. It’s not a generic, the door opened so we have to say “Welcome to…” kind of response, either. They actually have someone who has the job of making conversation with people and just making them feel welcome. I know that costs extra, but I like it.

I don’t like not being able to get Chick-fil-a on Sundays, but I understand why. I’ve worked enough jobs that I couldn’t depend on a standard day off that I get it. I know there are other reasons, but I think they’ve noticed that the people who work there are in better spirits if they know that they’ll have one day off a week for sure.

To me, this is an example of going the extra mile. The more you do, the easier it is to impact people.

Maybe the church should take a hint. It’s easy to get wrapped up in yourself and not notice others. I know I do it all the time. What if people thought of the church as the place you went when you were down and you wanted someone to notice you and tell you that you were special? I like that idea. What about you?
